Founded in 1993, the Aleph Guitar Quartet’s virtuosity enables the exploration of new musical spaces. The classical guitar ensemble’s performance in Graz demonstrates the tonal and formal richness of works by leading composers. Two world premieres and two Austrian premieres await the audience. Tristan Murail, one of France’s leading composers, dedicates a new work to the guitar quartet. Also to be heard for the first time is a new piece by Anna Korsun from Ukraine, who lives in Germany.
Swedish composer Lisa Streich’s music combines humor and profound emotions. Her piece is called Lupinen (Lupines), just like the invasive plant species in her home country, which emanates a dangerous beauty. Bernhard Lang pushes the boundaries of classical scores with a work from his GAME series. The piece’s form is created in the game: the musicians draw from shuffled sets of cards and follow a set of rules. Self-organization is both the goal and the medium of these strategies.
The composition by Anna Korsun originated as commission by Radio Österreich 1 in cooperation with ORF musikprotokoll. The compositions by Tristan Murail and Lisa Streich are commissions by the Aleph Guitar Quartet and were made possible through the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation as well as ORF musikprotokoll. The project was supported by VGR – Verwertungsgesellschaft Rundfunk.
