branches & bytes brings two contrasting sonic approaches into the same space: digital sound programming meets mechanical-analogue friction. Latvian sound artist Sofia Zaiceva shapes sound through code and algorithmic structures, while Austrian composer Andreas Trobollowitsch extracts raw, physical textures from branches and rotating wooden discs. Together they create a hybrid sound field in which opposites collide, intertwine, and dissolve in unexpected resonances.
For this edition of musikprotokoll, the duo extends its practice, treating wood and code as parallel epistemes of resonance — each sphere making audible what the other cannot articulate alone. Through live spatialisation, generative algorithmic processes, and physical interaction, Zaiceva and Trobollowitsch invite listeners to recalibrate their mode of hearing and to reflect on the proximity, density, and topology of materials.
The performance by branches & bytes is a commission of ORF musikprotokoll.
