Marin Alsop is an internationally renowned conductor who is not only appreciated for her varied concert programs, her outreach activities and her passionate commitment to music promotion, but is also driven by the deep conviction that music is of central importance to human beings. Alsop has been music director of the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna since 2019. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra recognized Alsop with the title of Honorary Conductor in 2021. As Alsop has written music history in the first place: she is not only the only female conductor to be awarded the MacArthur Fellowship, but also the first woman to take the conductor's podium at the BBC's "Last Night of the Proms." In 2002, Alsop initiated the Taki Concordia Conducting Fellowship program to encourage and support young female conductors at the beginning of their careers.
