molluscs and insects

Internal movements suddenly begin to flicker in a “stable” sound – fast snails. A highly accelerated sequence of sounds appears motionless – inert dagger flies. If you want to feel apparent musical paradoxes, you need to listen. Klaus Lang and Dafne Vicente-Sandoval do just this, improvising with a harmonium and a bassoon.

Their sounds reveal unsuspected, clandestine double lives. The primary timbres of the instruments mingle to form sophisticated nuances. Musical structures create the illusion of complex shade effects. Fast becomes slow, motionless seems to be moving. With “molluscs and insects”, the duo perform spiritual exercises in the perception of time-sound: “Sound turns musical  material into perceived time, the object of music is the auditory experience of time. Music is time made audible.”
