Klaus Lang

Klaus Lang (*1971 in Graz) lives as a freelance composer and organist in Upper Styria and Vienna. He studied composition, music theory, and organ in Graz and has received composition commissions from numerous festivals. For Lang, music is not a language for communicating non-musical content, but a free, autonomous acoustic object. In his works, sound is not used but explored through listening. When sound is simply sound and does not refer to anything else, it becomes perceivable as what it truly is: a temporal phenomenon, audible time. Time, as the essential material of the composer, is thus also the central subject of music for Lang. Musical material is time perceived through sound, and the object of music is the auditory experience of time.
