Anke Eckardt

Three mysterious amorphous beings, embedded in a dense babble of voices, invite reflection on cross-species communication. Space04 at Kunsthaus Graz is their speculative world — a utopia in which different forms of life, organic, technological, and hybrid, coexist peacefully. The beings are surfaces for projection, but also mirrors: when their colourful and multiform skins gradually fade as biodiversity dwindles, the voices that had just been so full of hope seem to condense into a lament reaching from the future into our present.

Through her multimedia installation and cross-species fable, Anke Eckardt poses a multitude of questions. What is voice, what is language, what is music? Who decides what counts as thinking? And where does self-realisation as a concept lead if we imagine a world no longer dominated by humans? The presentation of Moreth Anhuman H1N4 is Eckardt’s inaugural lecture at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
