Chamber opera for amplified ensemble, four singers and electronics
In Ui-Kyung Lee's chamber opera Nachhall (Reverberation) premiered by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in cooperation with ORF musikprotokoll, an abandoned flat becomes a space of memory for what remains of a person. A corpse cleaner enters this seemingly dead place, beneath whose surface everything lives on: memories, sounds, fragments of an existence.
The space constantly reveals new perspectives. Figures and objects emerge as if from the hidden memories of a consciousness: grotesque, tender, uncanny.
The protagonist's journey unfolds between reality and dream, between documentary precision and surreal fragments - a slow identification with the forgotten and a poetic reflection on what remains when everything else has passed.
