Chamber opera for amplified ensemble, four singers and electronics
In Ui-Kyung Lee’s chamber opera Nachhall, whose world premiere is presented by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in cooperation with ORF musikprotokoll, an abandoned apartment becomes a space of remembrance for what remains of a person. A crime scene cleaner enters this seemingly dead place, where everything lives on beneath the surface: memories, sounds, fragments of existence.
The space constantly reveals new perspectives. Figures and objects emerge as though from the hidden memories of a consciousness: grotesque, tender, uncanny. Between reality and dream, between documentary precision and surreal fragments, the protagonist’s journey unfolds—a slow identification with the forgotten and a poetic reflection about what remains when everything else has passed.
