Dom im Berg
For some years now, the archive has increasingly become the focus of artistic practice - as an institution that is characterised by imperial interests and perpetuates hierarchies of knowledge and bodies. The workshop is dedicated to the artistic means of dealing with images and sounds from (colonial) archives and addresses questions of memory, representation, violence and ethical responsibility.
Dialogues between archivists, scientists and artists will open up perspectives on the potential of artistic approaches to sensitive images and sounds. Many of these recordings were made in the context of violence.
The workshop will also focus on questions of positionality, the necessity and possible transformation of archives, including the repatriation of collections and alternative forms of archiving. The workshop will conclude with Filipa César's film "Speel Reel!" (2017) and a concert by Christian Rosales Fonseca, which will be presented as examples of decolonising approaches to the colonial archive.
