Rule-breaking is at the center of Laikka’s transdisciplinary artistic work — group members Moritz Wunderwald and Alex Gruehn describe their queer music as genre-fluid post pop, and breaking musical and social norms is the program. “If there is a rule,” says Wunderwald, “it’s that nothing is ever fixed.” Every day offers the opportunity to reinvent oneself anew.

For ORF musikprotokoll, Laikka collaborates for the first time with electronic musician David Obermaier, aka silentbeat. Together, they compose a new piece for people with different hearing abilities that expands the very idea of music itself. Laikka and Obermaier met in April 2024 as part of a guest performance by sub_bar in Vienna, a movement of artists and researchers who are committed to shifting the paradigm from sound to vibration in music production and education, uniting deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing audiences.
