Uncage the Birds - Whether individually or in a flock: birds came chirping to the Ö1 Birds' Song Contest. For Höhenrausch 2015, the colorful flock of birds moves to the Keine Sorgen tower. Up there, the virtual birds are waiting for visitors to help them find their way to acoustic freedom at the push of a button.
Anyone who climbs the tower can watch a flock of birds fly high above Linz and make them sound. The title refers to the "Godfather of Listening" John Cage, who titled his groundbreaking book Pour Les Oiseaux (For the Birds). It was a play on words with the semantic meaning of his own name, with the cage - thus "Uncage the Birds!"
The radio station invited its listeners to participate in the "Ö1 Birds' Song Contest -- Douze Points pour les Oiseaux" with bird voices of all kinds sent in (on the occasion of the Eurovision Song Contest held in Austria). Until the presentation in the program "Le week-end" was collected and voted via Ö1 website.
"When I was asked to suggest a catchy title, I said: Call it Pour Les Oiseaux. Though the publisher Pierre Belfond accepted this, he asked me somewhat nervously after the publication of the book whether my title was merely a joke. I said: No. I am for the birds, not for the cages." (John Cage)
Chirping "birds" came flying to the Ö1 Birds' Song Contest. For the Höhenrausch, the colorful flock of birds (the submitted audio files) will move to the Keine Sorgen tower, where they will wait for visitors to release them back into acoustic freedom.
