Someone who looks like a sailor mumbles something incomprehensible to himself, someone else nods. Sound blows like the wind. Far away, flotsam moves around like a troll, like a nocturnal animal, a seal perhaps. “Concert for Greenland” is archaic, arctic shadow and picture theatre, as if it were centuries old and yet an up-to-the-minute audio-visual, electro-musical composition: sound art, video, language, robotics, age-old cultural technologies and hi-tech, it is all one. But above all, this theatre piece, a concert and an installation and a choreography, takes us on a sentimental, but never soupy journey through the improbable, lonely scenery of Greenland. “Concert for Greenland” reflects the places actually visited on this journey as a distant memory, as a dream, as an unconscious experience. And, at the same time, it is an entertaining expedition that takes us on a walk around an unknown landscape of sound, pictures and language with subtle humour. An orchestral piece and yet not a piece of music, but rather a spatial composition. The Norwegian Verdensteatret unites artists from all disciplines – the characteristic trait of their work is the unusual, often surprising use of new technologies in an intimate dialogue with traditional means of artistic expression.
