“We often used very weak transmitters. That creates interesting examples of expression and attitude both in the ‘transmitter’ and in the audience. Because the capacity is so small, the radiowaves have to be transmitted and received very consciously. That alone became an artistic act.”
By the quality of “micro”, Tetsuo Kogawa means a counter-strategy to mass-media uniformity, something immediate, intimate and political, something very close. Precisely the incredibly fragile nature of miniature transmitters allows him to transform the consciousness-forming energy of these transmissions into artistic work.
