Larva becomes pupa becomes butterfly – three stages of metamorphosis that correspond to the three scenes of a music-theatre piece by Dmitri Kourliandski. Giving his chamber opera the title Asteroid 62, the Russian composer refers to a celestial body that was discovered in 1860 and named after the muse of lyric love poetry, Erato. Asteroid 62 is one of the two prize-winning works in the 5^th Johann Joseph Fux competition for opera composition, organised by the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and presented by the Austrian state of Styria, and will be premiered at the musikprotokoll festival.
