A white thread is made to vibrate, dancing around its own axis and quickly forming a standing wave, which while bathed in colorful light seems to be sonorously rotating into eternity and pointing the way towards a new constellation of space and time. SpaceTime Helix is the title of this mysterious drama, which media artist Michela Pelusio conjured with the help of the optical-acoustic instrument that she developed and a dark space. The work was created in 2012 in Austria, and in the following years the artist traveled with it around the world — from Vienna to Tokyo, from Dubai to Montreal. SpaceTime Helix plays with the laws of physics and ultimately leads us back to the beginnings of the world, since standing waves are often found in nature. According to Pelusio: “Standing waves and harmonic vibrations are fundamental to our understanding of the world and the universe.” SpaceTime Helix is being performed in Graz for the first time as part of musikprotokoll.

In cooperation with SHAPE — Sound, Heterogeneous Art and Performance in Europe. Sponsored by the European Union’s “Creative Europe” program. Michela Pelusio is a SHAPE Artist 2019.
