Sam Auinger, sonic thinker, composer and sound artist, was born in Linz in 1956. Since the 1980s he has focused on composition, computer music, sound design, and psychoacoustics. In addition to his works for film, theatre, radio, video, exhibitions and festivals in Europe and North America, Auinger lectures on “sound and architecture” and headed the experimental sound design programme of the Sound Studies master degree course at the Berlin University of the Arts from 2008 to 2012. In 1989 he and Bruce Odland founded O+A, a transatlantic collaboration interested in soundscapes and sound installations that change the way we hear. In 2010 Auinger was appointed as city sound artist for Bonn.
