From October 3 to 11, ORF musikprotokoll 2026, under the theme Supernova will set out in search of the origin – the connection between the microcosm and the macrocosm. When we look up at the stars, we are looking into a mirror: We also find the seemingly infinite depth of the universe within ourselves, for the elements that make up us and our fellow living beings were created either shortly after the Big Bang or through nuclear fusion inside stars. In numerous world premieres, the invited artists explore this connection – from the search for dark matter to a journey into the sun to the musical deciphering of Leonardo da Vinci’s sound puzzle, – in concerts, sound installations, an exhibition at this year’s festival center, the Volkskundemuseum am Paulustor, and a symposium at the Meerscheinschlössl.
