musikprotokoll 2026 – A Look Back in Pictures

Nine days between microcosm and macrocosm, between particle detector and choral hall – that was musikprotokoll 2026 in Graz.

From 3 to 11 October 2026, Graz was the stage for ORF musikprotokoll. Under the motto “Supernova”, the festival set out in search of origins – of the elements we are made of, and of the sounds that can be drawn from them. It opened with Graz spielt Steve Reich, a 24-hour celebration across the city. A week later, the Volkskundemuseum am Paulustor opened its doors as festival hub for the exhibition Supernova, created in the wake of the SciArt Dialogue Week at CERN, for the walk-in 3D audio installation Worlds / Graz, and for a dismantled piano that steadfastly refused to lose its composure. At Dom im Berg, quantum physics became audible; at Helmut List Halle, Maria Kalesnikava performed with the RSO Vienna, and 250 voices brought Beat Furrer’s Enigma cycle to its first complete performance in Austria. The festival closed at MUMUTH with Alexander Chernyshkov’s chamber opera Heute schrieb ich nix.

Our photo gallery presents 25 snapshots of these nine festival days – impressions between sound, space, and encounter.
