Immersed in the sound of Lebanon’s wedding “Dabkehs” since his early years, Wassim Halal’s playing is informed in equal measure by his many trips to Lebanon, and his encounters with the gypsy music of Turkey, the “Rebetiko”. He is equally interested in improvisation, and has developed a particular style made of multiple influences, exploring both the universes of rhythm and the particular sonorities of percussion.
