Styrian Improvisers Orchestra

STIO, the Styrian Improvisers Orchestra, was founded in 2012 by V:NM Graz and is conducted by Annette Giesriegl, Seppo Gründler and Josef Klammer. It is composed of musicians from the Graz and Vienna improvisation scenes and a number of changing (guest) musicians and conductors versed in the improvisation idiom. The orchestra varies in size, from 15 to 35 players, as does the instrumentation, which to date has included wind instruments, strings, keyboard instruments, vocals, percussion, electronic devices and computer-controlled, prepared, DIY or “ethnic” instruments.
