After graduating from the masterclass for photography in 1999, Sabine Maier co-founded the art label Machfeld. She has been a board member and curator of Foto Fluss at Schloss Wolkersdorf since 2012. In 2023, together with Prof. Dietmar Wiegand (TU Vienna), she developed the utilisation concept for the Reallabor Fassfabrik, a 1500 m² area in Vienna 23 bzk. She is also the artistic director of the project. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the Recognition Award for Cross-Border Art from the Province of Lower Austria, the State Scholarship for Media Art and the Outstanding Artist Award from the BMKÖS. As a guest lecturer, she has taught at renowned institutions such as the KUG Graz, the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and Webster University in Vienna. Her work has been presented internationally, including at the Leopold Museum, Rupertinum, the Cape Town Biennale (ZA), the Hammer Museum (L.A.), the UCCA in Beijing and at the Austria Cultural Forums in New York, London and Cairo. She is represented by Galerie Jünger in Vienna and the Fahy Gallery in San Francisco.
