Mikel Urquiza (*1988, Bilbao) studied composition at Musikene (San Sebastian) with Gabriel Erkoreka and Ramon Lazkano, and later at CNSM Paris with Gérard Pesson. He works closely with L'Instant Donné ensemble, exploring the fragility of memory in Les lueurs se sont multipliées and the delicate violence of love gestures in Serpientes y escaleras (serenata). Mikel Urquiza’s music is also played by the Ensemble intercontemporain, Basque National Orchestra, SMASH Ensemble, Das Neue Ensemble, Wilhem Latchoumia and Trio Talweg at the San Sebastian Musical Fortnight, Paris National Opera season, New York MATA Festival, Gaudeamus Muziekweek and Lucerne Festival.
