Mauricio Sotelo

The Spanish composer Mauricio Sotelo (born in 1961) studied composition with Francis Burt at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He also attended the composition class with Roman Haubenstock-Ramati and studied electroacoustic music with Dieter Kaufmann as well as orchestra conducting with Karl Österreicher. He has won many prizes and honours, including the Advancement Award of the City of Vienna (1990), the Daniel Montorio Prize and the Reina Sofía Prize for composition (2000), to mention only three. Mauricio Sotelo has lived and worked as a freelance composer in Madrid since 1992. His works have been performed in conjunction with the most distinguished international forums. He has directed ensembles like Klangforum Wien, Concentus Vocalis, Ensemble di Venezia, musikFabrik or Orquesta de Córdoba. Mauricio Sotelo is a member of the Consejo Superior de Enseñanzas Artísticas.
