Marije has a diverse background in physics, acoustics, electronic music and sound art, and performance. In her artistic work Marije moves between live performance, livecoding, and interactive installations involving light and sound. Her focus is on composing of behaviours and interaction modalities, creating processes driven by sensor data, rather than fixed sound tracks. She has collaborated with various people, amongst which Alberto de Campo, Chris Salter, Michael Schumacher, Attakkalari Dance Company and Workspace Unlimited. She is affiliated with STEIM since 2011, and also works as a freelance artist and researcher/developer from Amsterdam.
