Leonhard Garms grew up in Rome. He studied conducting, accompaniment and music theory at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, attended master classes with Peter Eötvös, Arturo Tamayo and Paavo Järvi and has assisted conductors such as Kirill Petrenko, Peter Rundel and Emilio Pomarico. After graduation, his first engagements took him to the Komische Oper Berlin and the Turkish State Opera in Istanbul. As a permanent member of Schallfeld Ensemble and guest of various instrumental ensembles and orchestras, he regularly performs at international festivals. Contemporary music theater occupies a central place in his activities, ideally combining his enthusiasm for new music and his instinct for the stage.
