As a chamber music ensemble with a varying instrumentation the Konus Quartet inspires with expressive and unconventional sounds. It mainly interprets contemporary new compositions, but its repertoire also includes works of past centuries and arrangements for four saxophones. Three musical highlights most aptly characterise the remarkable range of Konus Quartet: the 2007 performance of La bocca, i piedi, il suono, a work by Salvatore Sciarrino for four soloists and hundred saxophones, in the French Church in Bern. In 2009 Konus Quartet commissioned the British double bass player Barry Guy to compose a work, in which he would also play. And finally, the Zurich musician Tomas Korber was commissioned to write a new piece; his composition Musik für ein Feld [Music for a Field] for four saxophones and electronics was premiered on an open field out in nature in 2011.
