Judit Varga

Judit Varga’s wide piano repertoire includes both the most important pieces of the classical piano repertoire and recent contemporary compositions. As a composer, she is particularly interested in creating music for short films and theatrical productions, as well as in compositions written for multimedia events. Among others she won the creative artists award from the Austrian Ministry of Education and Culture in 2011 and 2014, and was nominated for the Austrian Film Academy’s award for best film music twice, which she won in 2014 for her music for the the film Deine Schönheit ist nichts wert (Your Beauty is Worth Nothing). Her works as a composer have been performed at such prestigious festivals and concert venues as Wien Modern, Cité de la musique in Paris, the Budapest Autumn Festival and Warsaw Autumn. She is a professor at Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, and also teaches music composition, film and multimedia art at Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. In October 2016 the Hungarian State Opera House premiered her opera Szerelem (Love).
