Jakob Gruchmann was born in Salzburg in 1991 and began playing music at an early age (accordion, horn, and organ, among others). He studied composition and musicology in Salzburg and Graz. His works have been performed regularly in Austria and abroad, he has won numerous awards and prizes in composition competitions (for instance the composition prize of the Concorso Corale Internazionale “Musica Sacra a Roma” in 2013) and he has also received several music grants, for instance the 2012 scholarship from the State of Salzburg. He has been commissioned to write compositions for Aspekte Salzburg, Bavarian State Exhibition, Chorverband Österreich, International Mozarteum Foundation, Salzburger Kulturvereinigung, Theater Krefeld Mönchengladbach, and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, among others.
