Hermann Markus Preßl

Hermann Markus Preßl (*1939 in Altaussee; † 1994 in Damouchari) studied mechanical engineering and music in Vienna, Salzburg, and Graz. As a violinist, composer, and music theorist, he taught at various institutions in Austria and abroad. His research on Kalasha music in Pakistan and Afghan folk music significantly contributed to musicology. Preßl received numerous awards, including composition prizes from the Austrian Ministry of Education and Arts and the city of Graz. His oeuvre encompasses a wide range of compositions and contributions to music theory. He was a member of various ensembles and maintained close connections with international composers. His work had a lasting impact on the Austrian music scene.
