Hans-Kristian Kjos Sørensen

Hans-Kristian Kjos Sørensen (*1965, Oslo) is a renowned percussionist and cymbalist. He studied percussion at the Norwegian Academy of Music, was among the prize-winners at the CIEM Geneva Competition in 1992 and won the Norwegian Grammy Spellemannprisen in the category contemporary music with his solo album Open in 2003. HKKS has released a number of albums with improvised and notated music in the jazz, Baroque and classical genres for labels such as ECM, BIS and Ultron, his own label. As a soloist, he has performed with the London Philharmonia, Oslo Philharmonic, and Bergen Philharmonic, among other orchestras. A sensitive and profound interpreter of contemporary music, he has worked with composers such as Brett Dean, Per Nørgård, and Rolf Wallin. He has also composed music for film and theatre productions and conducted the Swedish Chamber Orchestra and the Dala Sinfonietta, performing works by Lutosławski, Vasks, MacMillan and his own compositions.
