Hannes Kerschbaumer studied composition with Gerd Kühr, Pierluigi Billone, Beat Furrer and Georg Friedrich Haas. In addition to multiple collaborations with ensembles, including Arditti Quartet, Vertixe Sonora Ensemble, String Quartet of Klangforum Wien, PHACE, and Haydn Orchestra, among others, he is one of the co-founders of the ensemble chromoson, artistic director of “hörbar! – tag der neuen music” and a member of the electronic trio dark matter. He has received various prizes, such as the SKE Publicity Prize 2015 and the Austrian State Grant for Composition 2016. In his compositions he creates vast, translucent sound spaces and expands the sounds of traditional instruments via experimental playing techniques.
