Enno Poppe was born in Hemer, Sauerland, in 1969. He studied conducting and composition at the Berlin University of the Arts with Friedrich Goldmann and Gösta Neuwirth, among others. He continued his studies in the field of sound synthesis and algorithmic composition. Along with his concert activity as pianist and conductor, he has been musical director of ensemble mosaik since 1998. Poppe was lecturer for composition at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin. He has received commissions from various ensembles, including Ensemble Modern, Klangforum Wien and WDR. His compositions have been performed at festivals in Berlin, Munich, Saarbrücken, Vienna, Cologne, Barcelona, Lviv, St. Petersburg, Paris and Witten, among others. In 2011 he received the Happy New Ears Composition Prize awarded by the Hans und Gertrud Zender Foundation, and in 2013 he won the Hans Werner Henze Prize.
