David Niemann (*1990) is considered one of the most promising conductors of his generation. After winning second prize in the international Malko Competition for young conductors in Copenhagen in 2015, he was appointed assistant director at the Opéra National de Montpellier where he worked under chief conductor Michael Schønwandt until 2018. More recently, he has conducted the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, the Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse, and the Danish National Orchestra, among others. He has worked with soloists such as Gerhard Oppitz, Tobias Feldmann, and Lukas Geniušas, and has conducted the first performances of works by the composers Dieter Schnebel, Malika Kishino, and Birke Bertelsmeier, just to name a few. In the 2020/21 season he conducted Verdi’s Falstaff and Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker at the Malmö Opera and made his debut with the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, among others.
