Clemens Nachtmann (born 1965 in Bavaria) is a composer, music theorist and writer. He studied political science as well as composition and music theory in Munich and Berlin, working with composers such as Wilhelm Killmayer, Friedrich Goldmann, Gösta Neuwirth and Hartmut Fladt. After many years in Berlin, he moved to Graz in 2004, where he completed postgraduate studies in composition with Beat Furrer and has taught music theory and aural training at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz since 2005. Alongside his compositional work, Nachtmann has published and lectured extensively since the 1980s on social, political, cultural and musical topics. His works have been performed at numerous festivals and concert series for contemporary music in Austria and abroad. He has received several awards and scholarships, including the Boris Blacher Prize for Composition. His collaborators include Klangforum Wien, ensemble mosaik, Schallfeld, and ensemble aventure.
