The Balduin Sulzer Choir is the main choir of the Musikgymnasium Linz. While it upholds the choral tradition through performances of large-scale oratorios, it also places a strong emphasis on challenging choral works from the 20th and 21st centuries. Named after the Upper Austrian composer and educator Balduin Sulzer, the choir sees itself as a platform for stylistically nuanced, sonically precise, and text-conscious interpretation. The ensemble works on a project basis and presents programs both a cappella and in collaboration with the Musikgymnasium’s own orchestra, professional instrumental ensembles and orchestras, as well as internationally active soloists and conductors. A distinctive feature of the choir is its combination of contemporary repertoire with sacred choral music performed in sacred spaces. In addition to world premieres and Austrian premieres, the choir regularly engages in music education initiatives and collaborations with young singers.
