Annibale Padovano

Annibale Padovano (1527-1575) was an Italian composer and organist of the Renaissance. He initially worked as an organist at St Mark's Basilica in Venice, making him one of the first representatives of the famous Venetian school. Padovano was known for his virtuoso ricercari, toccatas and his significant contributions to the development of polychoral vocal music. In 1566 he became court organist in Graz at the Habsburg court of Archduke Charles II, where he worked until his death. In addition to instrumental works, he composed masses, motets and Magnificat settings. Padovano is considered a pioneer of Baroque polychoral music and had a great influence on subsequent composers such as Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli.
