Annesley Black

Annesley Black is a Canadian composer who lives in Graz, where she is professor for composition at the Kunstuniversität Graz. Previously, she has held positions in Frankfurt am Main, Cologne and Würzburg. She has worked as a composer, performer and sound director with renowned artists from various artistic fields and explores an unusual breadth of innovative settings, genres, themes and concepts. Characteristic of her compositions is a myriad of interwoven structures, which create an expressive, intricate and distinctive musical language. Black has received many honours for her work including the Busoni Award from the Academy of the Arts, Berlin (2008), the Kompositionspreis der Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart (2009) and the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung Composer Prize (2019). She is a member of the Academy of the Arts, Berlin.
