Anna Sowa is a Polish composer and artist based in Basel. Born in 1987 in Tymbark, she studied eurythmy and composition in Łódź, Essen, Shanghai and Basel (under Johannes Kreidler and Caspar Johannes Walter, among others). Her focus lies on experimental music and the performing arts, particularly on the interplay of movement, gesture and theatricality with electronic and instrumental sounds. Her works have been performed internationally at renowned festivals, including Warsaw Autumn, ECLAT and Musica Privata. Her opera Silenzio/Silence premiered in Bolzano in 2022. In addition to composition, she works on sound installations and interdisciplinary projects. Sowa has received several grants, including the Witold Lutosławski Scholarship and funding from the Nicati de Luz Foundation.
