Born in Detmold, Germany, he studied violoncello and composition at the Musikhochschule in Detmold. In 1986, a grant awarded by the Rotary Foundation International gave Andreas Lindenbaum the opportunity to study with Janos Starker at the School of Music Bloomington/USA. He moved to Vienna in 1989 and has since then been a member of Klangforum Wien. He has been teaching at the Konservatorium Wien University since 1990.
