The Student 3D Audio Production Competition celebrates its tenth edition. Unlike stereo or conventional surround sound, which distributes sound on a single plane around the listener, 3D audio works with full spatiality: sound sources can be positioned precisely — above the head as well, in any direction and at any distance. Students from around the world submit works in 3D audio across the categories contemporary computer music, radio play/soundscape, and studio production. An international jury selects the finalists.
At ORF musikprotokoll, the award-winning works in the Contemporary Music category are presented — on the 50-channel loudspeaker system of Dom im Berg, which makes the spatial design of these pieces immediately perceptible. Ten years after its first edition, compositional work with 3D audio is firmly established. The Public Listening presents outstanding works from an international scene at the highest level.
