BAROGUE is about the pursuit of purity and dominance that characterised the Baroque era and created patterns of thought that continue to shape our perception to this day. The Baroque was obsessed with order and ornament. It produced intellectual breakthroughs and artistic milestones as well as profound marginalisations. New standardisations and categories not only structured knowledge and cognition, they also segregated and erased and defined the limits of the human imagination.

BAROGUE: the impetuous baroque. Abundance, resistance and loss of control were an essential part of the anaesthetic and artificial beauty of this era. Marko Ciciliani's BAROGUE is a three-part transmedia project that explores from different perspectives how the pursuit of order in the 18th century shaped artistic practices, how its logic of scientific classification permeated music and how these ideas still influence our thinking today.
