Testimonies of Imprisoned Women in Belarus
In the summer of 2020, women became the face of the Belarusian revolution. After the rigged presidential elections, their protest marches catapulted Belarus into the headlines of the world press. The regime responded with brutal repression. Longer and longer prison sentences for increasingly absurd 'crimes' are now the rule. The same goes for the complete isolation of many of the prisoners, including the well-known musician and campaign manager Maria Kalesnikava, with whom there has been no contact since February 2023.
Cordelia Dvorák was able to smuggle out of the country and publish a selection of letters, diary entries, and last words in court from political activists imprisoned in Belarus in 2023. Amid an everyday prison life full of violence and terror, these testimonies are an expression of the incredible dignity and perseverance of women's resistance in Belarus.
Video installation and reading from the anthology "Wenn du durch die Hölle gehst, dann geh weiter" ("If you go through hell, then go on") by Cordelia Dvorák.
