ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien
The ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra is one of Austria’s most versatile orchestras, and in recent years has also established itself as an opera orchestra with productions at the Theater an der Wien. Its recordings for the ORF and for CD productions have grown into an extensive discography that spans a vast range of genres and includes many first recordings. The orchestra places special emphasis on talented young musicians, for instance by offering workshops for children and young people, a concert series where they are introduced to exemplary works, and by founding the Orchestra Academy. As the ORF’s own orchestra, the Vienna RSO also contributes substantially to the programme of the Ö1 radio station. The chief conductor and artistic director of the Vienna RSO is Cornelius Meister, who succeeded Bertrand de Billy in September 2010. In 2018 the Vienna RSO won the renowned ICMA in the category Symphonic Music for its 3-CD-Box Martinů: The Symphonies.
